Traffic Management Finland and Solita to develop innovative digital solutions for aviation and drone operators

Traffic Management Finland (TMF) and Solita have intensified their cooperation in creating new traffic services. As part of the development of the air navigation business, the aim is to build services to consumers and pilots that match with the needs of unmanned and commercial aviation. The first services are expected to be launched in 2020.

- “The increase in unmanned aerial vehicles requires innovative digital solutions in order to ensure safe air traffic in our airspace. It is natural that we develop new digital services to meet this particular need. I’m glad we will be able to work with Solita as they have solid experience in implementing smart technological solutions,” says Pasi Nikama, Senior Vice President in charge of marketing and customer relations at ANS Finland.

The first-stage goal of the project is to create the platform service solution, implement a drone operator register and produce real-time information on air traffic for aviation operators. According to preliminary plans, the platform solution and real-time air traffic information will be made available in 2020. Another goal is to cooperate with Traficom in offering a registration service for drone operators in line with the regulations coming into effect on 1 July 2020. Later, the services will be expanded to operations such as flight planning and tailored services for airline and state aviation clients.

Traffic Management Finland aims to build the best traffic ecosystem in the world for all modes of transport. In order to achieve its goals, the company provides a data platform and services for the use of various traffic operators. TMF has already provided extensive traffic information through the Digitraffic and with this cooperation project TMF is expanding its service offering to e-services and digital applications.

- We are excited of the opportunity to start innovation project with ANS Finland and possibility to create future digital services for aviation. Unmanned aviation will boost in the near future creating new business and demand for innovative new services. Participating digital service platform development strengthens Solita’s position in the heart of mobility data ecosystem, says mobility industry Director Mikko Varjos from Solita.

ANS Finland and Solita signed a cooperation agreement on March 17, 2020. The project concerns implementation of the Common Infromation Service (CIS) system for unmanned aircraft. The CIS system also supports the digitalisation of general aviation and is part of the air navigation service (eg. digitalisation of the flight planning service for general aviation).
