Submit an air navigation obstacle notification in time

Processing notifications of air navigation obstacles can now take more time than usual, so submit your notification as soon as you find out about its necessity.

What is an air navigation obstacle?

The safety and smoothness of air traffic is protected by way of several calculated planes based on international regulations.

These planes are in the airspace, so the potential impact of the obstacle on air traffic depends on the combined effect of the height of the structure and ground surface elevation.

An air navigation obstacle may not constitute a hazard to flight safety, interfere with air navigation facilities or air traffic or be set up so that it could be mistaken as facilities or signs serving aviation.

Any object can be an obstacle to air navigation; these include masts, wind power plants, chimneys, cranes, power lines, buildings, trees, etc.

How is a request for a statement made?

Section 158 of the Aviation Act specifies when a permit is required for an air navigation obstacle. Applications for a permit are submitted to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom. The opinion of ANS Finland must be attached to it. The application for an opinion and permit must include the precise location data of the site and the elevation of the structure and ground level. The requirement for a permit applies to setting up a new obstacle to air navigation, increasing the height of an existing one or moving it to a new location.

Traficom answers questions concerning the necessity of a permit.
