Information on the development of traffic volumes is now available in one place

How fast is traffic recovering from the fall caused by the coronavirus? Information on the development of traffic volumes is now available in one place

Traffic Management Finland's new service gathers and shares information on rail and road traffic volumes. For the first time in Finland, the service can be used to monitor the development of traffic volumes graphically. This new service will benefit companies, other organisations as well as decision-makers and interested citizens.

“The development of traffic volumes is a kind of pulse of society, which tells, for example, about economic development and the development of transport emissions, as well as how people and goods move. We want to respond to the thirst for knowledge of the stakeholders and make the traffic information generated by traffic control of different modes of transport even more readily available. That’s why we publish traffic volume data in graphical form on our website. Bringing traffic volume data to the new service complements our Traffic Situation and Digitraffic services,” says Jani Laiho, Head of Unit at the Road Traffic Centre, ITM Finland.

Currently, the service contains up-to-date information as well as comparative information on rail and road traffic volumes. Road traffic volumes are updated to the service once an hour, train traffic data once a day. The information can be found here: https://www.tmfg.fi/fi/tmfg/liikennemaarat (currently in Finnish).

“In line with its strategy, Traffic Management Finland has created a strong basis for analysing information and sharing the real-time traffic situation with all key stakeholders, the media and users of open data. We will continue our development work with a strong focus on all modes of transport,” says Timo Nieminen, Business Development Director of railway traffic, Finrail.
